Vantage Point March 2, 2008

Filed under: Movies, Review — eternally pink @ 6:11 am

BF, bestfriend C, our close college friend (also an officemate) G and I watched Vantage Point at Eastwood last night. We caught the 10:30pm screening - and we got there 10:35pm. On a side note, I’m a stickler for things like this; if something is starting at a particular time I want to be there either at least 5-10minutes early or just in time for the movie, program or whatever to start.

Anyway, I’ve heard of the movie in the Oscars and I know a little of the plot when it was being awarded but I totally forgot what the movie was all about so I was kinda pissed that we missed the start - which is where most pivotal scenes in the middle of the movie come from. And then as we were watching the movie I realized on the first flashback how the movie was made. The ‘tagline’ of the movie is 8 Strangers 8 Points of View 1 Truth; literally there are 8 strangers and the story is ‘told’ by showing how these people see the ‘main event’ (don’t really want too much spoilers ;) ). On the 3rd stranger people were laughing as the movie was being shown like it was ‘rewinding’. I was on the edge of my seat! The movie is sooo good and when we met our other friends for drinks after I was telling them to watch the movie! It was so action packed! And every time a (significant) stranger realizes or discovers something important his/her part stops and it goes back to a particular point in the movie and starts again so I was thinking “What did he see?!”, haha, it was a bit suspenseful.

After all the points of view of these different (significant) stranger, wherever their particular scene left off , it came together in one huge scene! And then you start to discover what they saw earlier and everything falls into place. Oh this movie is goood. ;) Two thumbs up! Very, very good. Here’s a synopsis of the film I got from IMDB:

President Ashton (William Hurt) is attending a global war on terror summit in Spain. Thomas Barnes (Dennis Quaid) and Kent Taylor (Matthew Fox) are two of the Secret Service agents assigned to protect him. This is the first action that Agent Barnes has been in since he took a bullet for President Ashton six months earlier. We really dont know if Agent Barnes is up to the challenge of protecting the President. Shortly after President Ashton is escorted to the stage in the plaza by the Secret Service, he is immediately shot twice by a rifle from a window and falls to the floor. The crowd is in shock and chaos breaks out all over, especially, when bombs begin to explode. Howard Lewis (Forest Whitaker) is an American video-taping the event to show to his children that he was actually there at this historic event. He believes that he has the picture of the man who shot the President. Agent Barnes sees the tape and has a clue to that person. Several different people witness the event, and only through their eyes do we see the truth behind the assassination attempt.

Nintendo Wii February 18, 2008

Filed under: Diet, Me Me ME, Review — eternally pink @ 2:15 pm

I am addicted! Haha, it is sooo fun! My mom got my brother one for Christmas (2007) and we’ve all been playing non stop ever since. It’s a fun way of exercising since it’s a really physical game. My mom told me that if she knew that it’s just a Wii that would make get up and sweat, she should have bought one when it first came out. Haha!

BF and I asked around in Greenhills how much it would take for them to convert the Wii (convert it so that it can play pirated games - bad!) and it would cost P4,000! Told mom about it and decided that she’ll just buy original games in the States - good! ;) And original games are cheaper in the US (around $20) compared to buying them here (around Php2,000) which are triple the US prices.

I’m so excited to buy the extra ‘gadgets’ and I’m so eager to try the other games as well. :)

The Golden Compass December 10, 2007

Filed under: Movies, Review — eternally pink @ 11:29 am

BF and I watched the Golden Compass yesterday at Robinson’s Galleria in Ortigas. I originally wanted to watch in Greenhills because we still have a cellphone we need to sell but I got to pick him up around 2pm already. The screening was at 2:10pm in Greenhills and 2:30pm in Galleria. We weren’t able to withdraw extra money so we just had enough to pay for the tickets; really funny because we gathered all our coins and bought a regular drink, hehe. :)

I liked the movie. BF was kinda fidgety in some parts of the movie, though. When I asked him why he answered me that it was dragging and had a lot of ‘dialogues’. Where’s the action daw, haha! :D But he finally figured it out by himself that maybe since this is a trilogy it would need to establish it’s story first; it’ll have to describe the players first before it actually shows the ‘action scenes’.

Here’s a synopsis of the first installment of The Golden Compass - okay, I didn’t realize it would be so hard getting a summary of this. All that showed up after searching for it is about the controversies of the movie. It is being said that the author of the book is an Atheist and the story is how he’s making the church the antagonist in the story and how he’s like convincing the children to turn away from them.

I just copied the review a friend of mine did it is pretty much the version I want to put here.

Lyra Belacqua played by Dakota Blue Richards is an orphan living at Jordan College in an alternate universe. In this world, every person is accompanied by a daemon, which is a physical representation of their soul in animal form. In short, it was their animal counterpart. The young Lyra’s daemon is named Pantalaimon which manages to change his shape in any manner it wishes unlike those adult, matured daemons.

In one occasion, Lyra was introduced to Mrs. Coulter which was played by Nicole Kidman. Mrs. Coulter gave her the idea of going to a trip to the far north and offered her to become an assistant. Delighted with the idea, Lyra agreed. Before she left, however, the master gave her a strange golden instrument called an alethiometer, which is capable of telling the truth. The master, though, failed to illustrate how the thing works and instead warned Lyra to keep the instrument only to herself. [Photo of alethiometer on the right.]

After some time, Lyra realized that Mrs. Coulter was involved with the Magisterium’s General Oblation Board which will use children to investigate the intercession. Her friend, Billy Costa and Roger have been taken. She eventually fled the auspices of Mrs. Coulter and was rescued by the Gyptians.

During her travels with the Gyptians, Lyra learned how to ask the alethiometer pertinent questions and how to interpret its responses.

Upon arrival in Trollesund, Lyra meets Texan aeronaut Lee Scoresby played by Sam Elliot, who offered to help her but first he wants to get a friend out of trouble. His friend’s name is Yurek Byrnison, an armored ice bear. The bear was exiled from his home after losing a fight upon betrayal by Ragnar, the current king. [Photo of Lyra/ w Yuker Byrnison]

The bear — after several adventure with Lyra — went with the Gyptians to help Lyra bring back her friends to their respective families. Inside the experimental station, Lyra asks Roger to get the others ready to escape. She has to hide under a table almost immediately because the experimental station staff and Mrs. Coulter come in. However, she was captured by the staff and was placed in a device where children are separated from their daemons. The separation is almost complete when Mrs. Coulter, looking terrified, runs in and stops the procedure.

Outside the experimental station the children confront the guards. But the group of Lyra intervened and eventually won the battle.

Overall, I liked the movie and I got curious enough to wait for the next 2 installments and watch them. :)

Little Brown Book December 8, 2007

Filed under: Me Me ME, Review — eternally pink @ 2:29 pm

M and I went to the pick up point of the Little Brown Book (which I just gave a nickname of LBB). It’s a planner/food directory/delivery reference all rolled into one. It wasn’t how I expected it to look like, but this isn’t in a bad way. I just imagined the daily part as different - or maybe I’ve just been so used on how the Starbucks planner looked like inside (which I stopped collecting the stickers for). I found out about the LBB here through Marketman’s blog. I think it was mentioned in his latest post (where he reminded us of the LBB pick up) that he might drop by. I was kinda hoping he would so I’d get to meet him. I wanted to ask the lady if he would drop by but as I was trying to practice the question in my head, I suddenly got shy. How would I ask her, “Miss, dadaan po ba si Marketman?” or “Miss, mag dro-drop by po ba si Mr. MM?” Hay… I don’t even know the guy’s name. I guess he’d be just like a “Charlie” to me.

I look forward to his posts every single day. He sounds like such a nice guy, cool dad & sweet husband. Oh, he’s really funny too. :) When he puts pictures in his posts and he just happens to be in it, he’s always “partly hidden” or he’d put a caption like “I’m the one wearing a cap.” Hehe reminds me of Charlie from Charlie’s Angels. But it’s perfectly fine by me if he doesn’t want to ‘reveal’ himself. Look at me, I’m maintaining this and I’m not even publishing it. Yet. :D Even BF doesn’t know I have this. Anyway, here are the pictures of my cute and über informative Little Brown Book (or LBB, hehe). :D

It comes with this cute box

My own Little Brown Book

It has a garter to keep it closed when not in use

How the back of the front cover looks like; cool print!

The cute print up close (please excuse my thumb, hehe) :)

How the Diary (Daily) part looks like

How the Directory looks like (its Conti’s!) :D

Discoveries December 4, 2007

Filed under: Blah, Review — eternally pink @ 8:59 am

I just discovered this site, Joy of Baking. The link is there in my Blogroll. :)

So far, I’ve tried to bake Chunky Chocolate Chip Cookies. It’s a hit here at home, especially with my brother. I’ve also tried “baking” pizza dough from scratch. I want to bake a lot of stuff! And I think I’ll utilize this site soon. I’ll study our oven when we transfer to the new house; there’s more counter space there. ;)

These recipes are on the top of my “bake these ASAP” list:

Another site (which is also in my Blogroll) that I used to frequent and just re-discovered is Blogthings. It has these random tests that you can take and post to your blog or personal site or I think even in Friendster. Some of the tests/quizzes they have are:

  • What carnival ride are you?
  • What’s your Native American name?
  • What’s your ideal marriage proposal?

These are just a few but there are hundreds, maybe even thousands of tests available. I’m sure you’ll see them here soon. :)

Import November 14, 2007

Filed under: Review — eternally pink @ 8:09 am

I am so happy with wordpress right now! I imported all my posts from blogspot to wordpress! Yey!ü

When I started this I was still not sure if I’ll “copy” all my older posts here - but that’d be so tedious so I just decided not to - good thing I just import them all. With just a click of a button, they’re all here. ;)

Older posts are the ones after my first post here at wordpress (duh).ü

I <3 WordPress! ;)

Read: "I Feel Bad About My Neck" July 10, 2007

Filed under: Review — eternally pink @ 9:45 am

I was reading the June 2007 issue of Metro Magazine when I landed on the page where they were doing a review on books. I love books. Especially romance novels — I can go on and on all day just reading these.Ü My bestfriend was the one who introduced me to these lovely books. I like romance novels written by Nora Roberts, Jude Devaraux, Judith McNaught, Johanna Lindsay and the like.

Going back to the Metro mag book review page, there’s this book that they recommended titled “I Feel Bad About My Neck — and Other Thoughts On Being a Woman” written by Nora Ephron. The same author that brought us When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle, You’ve Got Mail and Bewitched. I was already interested with the book with the just the title but after discovering that she’s the same author as the others I made up my mind to buy the book. It’s not anything like the romance books I read (with Lords and Dukes and Knights and Damsels in Distress) but it’s reality in a way that I know I’ll learn something from it.

Here are selected bits of wisdom from the chapter “What I Wish I’d Known”:

  • Buy, don’t rent.

  • Don’t buy anything that is 100% wool even if it seems to be very soft and not particularly itchy when you try it on in the store.

  • You can’t be friends with people who call after 11 pm.

  • The world’s greatest baby-sitter burns out after two and a half years.

  • The plane is not going to crash.

  • At the age of 55 you will get a saggy roll just above your waist even if you are painfully thin.

  • Write everything down.

  • You can order more than one dessert.

  • Back up your files.

  • If the shoe doesn’t fit in the store, it’s never going to fit.

  • When youre children are teenagers, it’s important to have a dog so someone in the house is happy to see you.

  • If friends ask you to be their child’s guardian in case they die in a plane crash, you can say no.

Payday is on Friday, just in time for me to buy this book. Yey!Ü

Good Times with Mo, Mojo & Maui March 14, 2007

Filed under: Review — eternally pink @ 9:13 am

There’s this show in a local radio station here (Magic 89.9) that’s titled Good Times with Mo (plus Mojo & Maui — the other DJs). Ev er since they started this segment “Forbidden Questions”; which they do every Wednesday; a lot of people was intrigued and started listening to their show. Uhm, yah, including me =) The object of the game is to become a member of the “Diamond Club”. To be a member here you should be able to finish all the questions (up to 40).

Some sample questions are:

- Have you ever slept with anyone famous?

- Name a celebrity with BO

- There’s a movie titled “We are the worst actors”; who would be the leading man/woman?

As you can see by the questions, their guests are celebrities. And it’s really a fun program to listen to, especially if the guests are game. And did I mention that Mojo, one of the DJs, is gay? Haha hilarious! There’s this one local showbiz columnist/TV host/reporter/whatever who’s writing/reporting stuff about the show being indecent/improper. But it’s entertainment! Oh well, it is hard to please everybody.

I really think that if I were famous and got invited to Forbidden Questions, I’d make it to 40 and be a Diamond Club member ;) but I’m not anyone famous, so there. =p

Here’s a photo of the DJs:

L-R: Andi9 (used to be part of trio but left; “9″ because that was the rating they gave her), Mo Twister, Maui Taylor (guest DJ supposedly while looking for Andi9’s replacement but viewers liked her so she’s still there) and Mojo Jojo (the uber fabulous gay DJ that I secretly want to be a friend of - not because he’s famous but I don’t know he has this ‘aura’ of kindness, bitchiness, and meaness all rolled into one) (”,)
